Bush throws down gauntlet to China with Dalai Lama meeting
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20071011/ts_afp/ustibetchina_071010220622Take that Communism! (or whatever China claims its government to be). President Bush will be residing over a ceremony to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the Dalai Lama, the exiled leader of Chinese-controlled Tibet (unfortunate for him the president's wife will also be in attendance who I'm convinced can neither spell or pronounce the word "librarian", or "Tibet" for that matter.) At some level it's not such a big deal because it's taking place in Washington D.C. about 5 blocks from the president's house.
Pelosi, who has a long-record of speaking against China's human rights violations, will present the award. Bush who has a long-record of choking on pretzels and violating human rights, will observed. If nothing else it will be seen as a slap in the face to China. Since Bush refuses to do anything about Myanmar for fear of angering China I guess I can take solace in the fact that he at least supports the existence of Tibet (or the existence of a guy who is making the world a better place, unlike him). Ok this is getting too negative a post. But I'm happy the legislature and executive seem to be in agreement that the Dalai Lama should have some commendation for his work.
